The River of God

“He has made everything beautiful in it’s time.  Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.”  (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NKJV)

The New Living translation of the bible better explains it.  It says: “God has made everything beautiful for its own time.  He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.”

This is the problem!  At times God shows us or tells us where He is taking us, but not the process or the route to this destination.  Many times not even the timing.  Don’t you just wish that when you say “Which way please?”, that you will hear an audible voice from the Lord which says “This is the way”.  This makes us so restless many times and we begin to speculate on what God is doing or what He is not doing or what He intends to do to get us there.  .

The Lord knows us too well!  If He tells us everything, we probably will run ahead of Him or beg Him not to go the hard route (yet it is this very route, no matter how uncomfortable it is that will shape us for the destination).  Anyway, it will not be a faith walk, would it? If we always knew everything, but we know that even if we do not know He knows!  Further more and most importantly if we are His, His Spirit is in us to lead us if of course we allow Him to.

This is a good time for someone who doesn’t know to ask, “But how do I know that He is leading me?”  It all comes down to fellowship -getting to know God through prayer and reading the Word (Yes! The bible and prayer, there are no shortcuts!), because the Holy Spirit will never contradict God’s word as He leads you.  “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God” Romans 8:14 NKJV .  This talks of maturity and intimacy, not just a casual relationship with the Lord.

The conclusion of this matter is that God loves you and that He is not a wicked God, but a good Father.  Whatever you go through remember the words in Jeremiah 29 verses 11 to 13 “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (NIV).

So my advice to you on your journey through life is to submit to God and resist the devil and his suggestions and temptations which are designed to take you off track in order to kill, to steal and to destroy, but thank God that those submitted to God can enjoy the abundant life that comes from knowing Christ Jesus (1 Peter 5:5 and John 10:10).
