WORD FOR TODAY - Fasting and Prayers Day 6

Scripture For Meditation: Judges 6:12-16

We read about Gideon's encounter with the Lord's angel on Day 4 (Judges 6:12-16).

You will notice that Gideon's main grouse with God was that God had withdrawn His presence from Israel. He recognised that that was the only logical explanation for what Israel had been going through. But if you look at it again from the understanding that we have from yesterday's word, it was Israel that turned their back on God and went after other gods. In that sense, it would be fair to say that Israel removed themselves from God's presence and not the other way round.

Let's look at the dialogue between Gideon and the Angel of the Lord again.

“The LORD's messenger appeared and said to him, ”The LORD is with you, courageous warrior!“” (Judges 6:12)

As we also read on day 1, in spite of what Gideon was going through, in spite of what he thought, God was already with him in the midst of it all even when he least felt His presence. That is the ever present help of God in the time of trouble.

Gideon's Response: “Gideon said to him, "Pardon me, but if the LORD is with us, why has such disaster overtaken us? Where are all his miraculous deeds our ancestors told us about? They said, 'Did the LORD not bring us up from Egypt?' But now the LORD has abandoned us and handed us over to Midian.” (Judges 6:13)

In other words, he was saying, as maybe you reading this might also be saying right now: “Yeah, right…I hear you, but I don't feel you.”

Or maybe, “I heard about what you did in the past in other people's lives; I can see what I'm going through right now, but I can't see you anywhere in this!”.

Or to put a more spiritual slant on it - “Lord I believe, help thou my unbelief”.

God's Commission to Gideon: “14Then the LORD himself turned to him and said, "You have the strength. Deliver Israel from the power of the Midianites! Have I not sent you?”

Why did God say to Gideon that he had the strength? Because His presence was already with Gideon!

Note the question that God asked Gideon: Have I not sent you?

God never sends you to do anything or to go anywhere without sending His presence to go with you! That is the seal of victory - the guarantee of success!

Gideon Responds again in doubt: “15Gideon said to him, "But Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Just look! My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my family.”

Translation: Er, God, You must be mistaken and just in case you haven't noticed, you've got the wrong man!

To which God replied: “16The LORD said to him, "Ah, but I will be with you! You will strike down the whole Midianite army.”

God is saying to you today - I am sending you as a deliverer for your family, your household, your church, your people - I am with you. Because of my presence with you, you will strike down the whole Midianite army, and deliver your destiny from the oppression of the devourer that had overwhelmed you and brought you low!

God is going to be stirring up some of you in the coming year to take bold steps of faith in contending for your destiny. Just like Gideon, Moses, Joshua or Jeremiah felt, you may question your qualifications or suitability for the commission; you may even be able to come up with a few reasonably valid reasons to shirk the call; nevertheless, God is saying to you today - “Ah, but I will be with you!”

And as it was with Gideon, the future promise “I will be with you”, was just an extension or confirmation of a past truth “I have been with you”, and an assurance of a present reality - “I am with you”. Hallelujah!

What is going to make the difference in your life in this season that you are entering into, is your ability to entertain God's presence and your ability to abide in His presence.

Crave His presence, savour His presence, delight in His presence, give everything you can to keep yourself and your family ensconced in His presence and watch as His Glory completely transforms every area of your life beyond your wildest imagination.

His presence will surely make the difference to your season!

I want more of You Lord; Keep me in Your presence.

Stir up Your Holy Spirit within me; Show me your ways that I may walk with you.

Light a fire in my heart with passion for your presence and Make my life a holy habitation for Your presence to dwell.

Pray for God to show forth the Glory of His presence in every situation you have been going through and in everything you will go through in this new season.

Ask God to strengthen you, your family and this church through the grace that flows from His presence as you go against every Midianite army that has risen again your destiny.

Pray for the victory that comes by reason of His presence with you.
